Sustainability

How COTA approaches its responsibility to the industry, its people, and the environment — and the direction we are building toward.

Responsible by Practice. Building Toward More.

We have a clear understanding of the role we play in the industrial ecosystem — and a genuine commitment to operating responsibly within it.

As a specialized laboratory and technical services company, our work sits at the intersection of quality, safety, and industrial efficiency. The services we provide help manufacturers reduce defects, avoid rework, extend component lifespan, and operate with greater precision — outcomes that carry real environmental and economic significance beyond our own operations.

We are at the beginning of a structured ESG journey. This page reflects where we are today and the direction we are committed to developing — with honesty, and without overstating what we haven’t yet formalized.

The Goals That Guide Our Direction

COTA’s activities connect with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We recognize these not as a marketing exercise, but as a framework for understanding where our work creates impact — and where we have the most opportunity to improve.

Through our technical training programs in ISO 16232 and VDA 19, we contribute to building specialized knowledge within the industrial workforce — strengthening the analytical and quality capabilities of engineers and laboratory professionals in Mexico and the United States.

We are a Mexican company that creates specialized, technical employment. We support our team's professional development and operate with the goal of building a stable, growing organization that generates long-term value for its people and the communities it serves.

Technical cleanliness is a discipline that directly supports manufacturing quality and industrial reliability. By helping manufacturers identify and control contamination, we contribute to more efficient, precise, and resilient industrial processes.

Our services support responsible production by helping manufacturers reduce defective parts, minimize rework, and improve first-pass quality — reducing material waste and resource consumption along the supply chain

Through our commercial representation agreements and long-term client relationships, we operate as a collaborative partner within the industrial ecosystem — sharing knowledge, supporting capability development, and contributing to a more technically capable supply chain.

Our Impact by Criterion

Our Environmental Footprint and the Impact of What We Do

As a laboratory and technical services operation, COTA’s direct environmental footprint is relatively contained — we do not operate heavy manufacturing processes or generate significant industrial waste. Our primary environmental considerations involve laboratory solvent management, controlled disposal of consumables and filtration materials, and energy use within our Querétaro facility.

Current practices:

  • Responsible handling and disposal of laboratory solvents per applicable regulations
  • Use of oil-free compression equipment (Ekom/ Jun-Air) to reduce contamination risk and
    energy consumption
  • Controlled laboratory environment that minimizes waste in the analytical process

Direction we are building toward:

  • Formalizing an environmental management baseline
  • Evaluating solvent recovery and recycling options
  • Monitoring and reducing energy consumption in laboratory operations

People, Knowledge, and the Communities We Serve

COTA’s social impact operates on two levels: internally, through the people who make up our team; and externally, through the knowledge and capability we build in the organizations we work with.

Current practices:

  • Ongoing technical training and development for team members
  • Training programs delivered to quality and laboratory professionals across the automotive supply chain
  • Client relationships built on long-term trust, not transactional engagement

Direction we are building toward:

  • Formalizing an internal professional development framework
  • Expanding training program reach, including academic and institutional partnerships
  • Documenting our social impact metrics over time

How We Operate — Structure, Accountability, and Integrity

COTA Group operates with a clear leadership structure across Mexico and the United States, with defined roles and accountability at every level of the organization. Our governance approach is grounded in the values that have guided the company since its founding: honesty, responsibility, and a long-term orientation toward our clients and partners.

Current practices:

  • Defined organizational structure with clear leadership accountability (COTA Group, México, USA)
  • Operations aligned with applicable laboratory and quality standards (ISO 16232, VDA 19)
  • Client data and technical information handled with confidentiality and professional responsibility
  • Transparent communication with clients about scope, results, and limitations

Direction we are building toward:

  • Implementing ERP for operational transparency and traceability
  • Formalizing internal policies for data management, ethics, and conduct
  • Establishing a baseline ESG reporting framework as the organization matures
